Since getting Luna, our lives have changed massively and for the better. However, this also means when it comes to finding something to do at the weekend where we can take her with us can be rather difficult. I don’t like leaving her for too long, but also want to spend as much time as possible with her during our days off.
North Devon is a pretty dog-friendly place, with an array of pubs, beaches and parks allowing dogs! However, Luna is basically a lunatic and doesn’t quite know how to act is public yet as she is only 4-months old. We have taken her to numerous places for walks where she let off some energy as well as to our local pub. I know it can be a little difficult to find somewhere good to walk your pup or somewhere to relax, so I thought I would let you know some of my absolute favourites.
The Thatched Inn, Abbotsham
With The Thatch being our local, it is ideal that this pub is dog-friendly. Their beer garden is one of the best in the area and you could easily spend a whole day there having a drink and of course some of their delicious food (I would highly recommend their cheesy chips, cheesy garlic bread and their cauliflower cheese, which I think is only an occasional special, but it is the BEST cauliflower cheese I have ever had, please add it to the menu permanently!)
One of my favourite places local to me is Abbotsham Cliffs. With panoramic views across the sea, you can often see Lundy Island on a clear day! There is loads of space for your pooch to run around whilst you enjoy the glorious scenery. This is one of our favourite places to take Luna for a walk after work, as it is basically right on our doorstep!
Trixie Paws, Buckland Brewer
As we haven’t taken Luna off the lead properly yet, we decided we would look or a secure field/paddock to practice some recall. I found Trixie Paws online, and they have a beautiful, secure paddock located in Buckland Brewer, which is only a short drive from us. We hired it for 30-minutes, and this only cost us £5, which I think is a complete bargain! There were toys left out for us as well as a long lead so that we could practice; we all had a great time and will definitely be back in the future!
This is one of Luna’s favourite places to walk as there is so much space to run around! One side of the beach is dog-friendly all year round, and there is plenty of space to practice recall, and it will give your pooch enough space if they aren’t too keen on other dogs! During the summer months, there is a parking charge, but it is completely free after 6pm!
These are just a few of the places we love taking Luna, but if there are any you think I may have missed, please let me know. Additionally, I would love to know if there are any dog-friendly attractions locally!
