If you didn’t already know, it was by 27th birthday a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to celebrate in style. We had been planning on going out for breakfast for a few weeks prior to my birthday, but some other plans popped up or I just couldn’t find anywhere in Bideford that I liked the look of.
It took a little searching online and carefully examining menus before I stumbled across The Tarka Diner. I remember hearing about this restaurant before, but I had no idea that they served breakfast; so was SO excited to try it! It isn’t necessarily a place you would stumble upon, but more, in my opinion, a hidden treasure.
After waking up to completely miserable British weather, we stepped inside and its bright interior made us feel like we stepped onto the set of Grease. Their cool interior completely sets the scene for their American Diner vibe with some 50’s music playing gently in the background and quirky décor.
The place was pretty empty when we arrived at around 9am, but that didn’t matter as décor and the whole aesthetic atmosphere made up for the lack of other customers.
We took a seat in one of the booths and browsed the menu (obviously, I already knew what I was already having). I had the American Style Pancakes; James had the Full Breakfast and my mum opted for the Eggs Benedict with Crispy Bacon. Along with a Mocha, Latte and Black Coffee, our breakfast arrived extremely quickly and nice and hot.
I will tell you now, I am an incredibly fussy person, but these pancakes were the best I ever had. I know that both James and my mum praised their breakfast options too.
The whole vibe of The Tarka Diner is so aesthetically pleasing, everything from the napkin holders, wallpaper, décor and music it is an influencer’s dream. Additionally, the food is out of this world and I can’t wait to pop back and try their lunch options.
I would highly recommend visiting here if you are looking for something a little different, or if you are trying to find a good spot for some great food; if you have children, I think they would completely love this place. I couldn’t even give this place a negative and would recommend visiting if you are ever in the area.
