As the weekend comes to an end, I really used to hate Sundays as the Monday morning dread usually kicks in around midday. I used to lose my head, and think where the rest of the weekend has gone and then run around aimlessly trying to get myself together for the week ahead. However, I’m now a changed girl, and really treat myself on a Sunday to some much-needed self-care.
I find that this is not only the best way to relax, but to get my head into a good mindset for the forthcoming week. I thought I would take you through my normal routine on a Sunday, which may also help you get into a better self-care routine.
8am – Wake Up
During the working week, I am up at around 5:30am, and by the weekend I am exhausted. As we have Luna, we can never have a huge lie-in, so we often take it turns over the weekend to get up with the dog. I like a little bit of extra time in bed on a Sunday as this helps me start my day of self-care. I will usually have a coffee in bed and catch up on my phone and pop on YouTube and watch some vlogs until it is time to get up.
10am – Dog Walk
We like to treat Luna to two huge walks over the weekend, as she only gets about 40 minutes around the block during the working week. We either pop to the beach or the woods and do a good couple of hours of walking. As we live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, we either take her to Northam Burrows or to the woods so she can have a proper run-around.
1pm – Lunch
Before the weekend begins, I like to try and get some nice food in so that we usually have a couple of options for lunch, but at the moment I am really enjoying egg and beans on toast. James and I will have lunch as soon as we return from our walk and spend a little bit of time together before I disappear upstairs for a few hours and he plays the Xbox.
2pm – And Relax
After I have had some food and have let it go down, I like to have a long bath and watch some of my favourite shows too! I know that you shouldn’t take any electrical items into the bathroom, but I use Netflix on my old laptop and have a nice little set-up going on. Candles lit, a bath bomb, lemon water and my favourite show playing is my idea of heaven! Sunday is also my hair wash day, so after I have a bath, I quickly hop in the shower and do that!
3:30pm – Self-Care Essentials
I am one of those people who will just sit in their towel for ages, so I use this time to do a face mask, paint my nails as well as doing a foot mask; this part of my day is all about making myself feel good. After this, I dry my hair and just relax for 20 minutes or so before heading downstairs. I am really into the Loreal clay masks at the moment, as well as the Superdrug own foot masks! This step actually takes ages, as I hate drying my hair so much!
5pm – Sunday Night Chills
After I have got comfy on the sofa and am in my loungewear, usually with a coffee, blanket and hot water bottle, we decide what we are going to have for tea. We usually have something easy such as pizza or pasta bake, or James has something from the slow cooker that I would have put on in the morning (as I am a vegetarian, we never eat the same thing).
We spend the evening catching up and planning our week ahead whilst finding something to watch. We usually have a series on the go, so binge watch it whilst giving Luna lots of cuddles until we go up to bed at about 10pm.
I like to ensure I follow some sort of routine on a Sunday where I can catch my breath and prep myself for the week ahead. We usually make sure that all of the housework, shopping and everything else is done on Friday evening so we can make the most of our weekend together; Sunday has definitely become my favourite day of the week.
